Low Back Pain
Low back pain affects four in five people at some point in their adult life. The most common cause is mechanical or 'non-specific' lower back pain, which results from strained muscles, joints, ligaments, minor damage to an intervertebral disc, or a combination of these tissues.
Symptoms can vary greatly from one person to another, ranging from sharp pain to stiffness and soreness. While some individuals experience short episodes lasting only a few days, others may face prolonged discomfort that persists for weeks, months, or even years.
According to NICE guidelines, manual therapy, including spinal manipulation, mobilisation, or soft tissue techniques such as massage, can be beneficial in managing low back pain with or without sciatica, especially when combined with exercise. Acupuncture can also be helpful in reducing pain and muscle spasms.
